Friday Fact: Weed QUADRUPLES Your Risk of Diabetes

Now we know hitting dabs leads to insulin jabs. Researchers at the Boston Medical Center analyzed the health records of more than four million adults and found that marijuana users were nearly four times more likely to develop diabetes than non-users. That’s right: Weed wrecks your heart, your brain, and your endocrine system. And this isn’t some statistical illusion. The researchers meticulously controlled for other factors such as age, sex, and underlying illnesses. The gravity of the findings in light of the rise in marijuana use is hard to overstate: Diabetes is a huge scourge in the US, and affects marginalized communities disproportionately.
