Friday Fact: Male marijuana users have a 32% higher risk of heart attack

Weed will break your heart—and the risks look different and much uglier for men. A study from researchers at the University of Pittsburgh and Drexel University found that male users’ cardiovascular health was much more severely affected by marijuana than that of female users. In fact, the males had a 32.2% higher risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction and a 19% higher risk of MACES (major adverse cardiovascular events) generally. So men’s heart health is especially vulnerable to marijuana use, and men smoking more than women just makes things even worse.
