Friday Fact: Intoxicating hemp exposures increased by 79% between 2021 and 2022

After the 2018 Farm Bill legalizing hemp was passed into law, it inadvertently legalized intoxicating hemp as well. The fallout was mass production of intoxicating hemp products and then a 79% increase in reports of intoxicating hemp exposure to poison control centers nationally between 2021 and 2022. To make matters worse, 30% of those reports were of children 6 years old or under. But the end is in sight. We at SAM guided language banning such products into a pivotal congressional bill. That language is now law. Thanks to all the doctors, researchers, and (most importantly) parents who sounded the alarm.
