Friday Fact: Living near weed stores increased the likelihood of addiction for young people by 13%

A report by the Washington State Institute for Public Policy found that among 12-20 year olds, being within a 10-minute drive of a marijuana retailer increased the likelihood of developing cannabis use disorder (CUD) by 13%. Worse, among those who already have CUD, being near a marijuana retailer increased their likelihood of developing a psychotic disorder by 22%. It has long been known that the marijuana industry targets the marginalized (the data for this report came from Medicaid enrollees). It looks like their strategy is sound—and deadly dangerous.
