Friday Fact: Marijuana legalization drove a 10% increase in use over 2016 levels

New research from the Boston College School of Social Work rebuts a claim commonly made by Big Weed: that legalization has no effect on use. In fact, marijuana legalization was associated with a 10% increase in use compared to 2016 levels. The study also notes that legalization across the country was associated with “plummeting perceptions of the adverse consequences of cannabis use.” In other words, Big Weed told a big lie—and helped make marijuana seem safe to use. The results have been pain and suffering and addiction for families and communities across the country.
