Friday Fact: 7% of pregnant US women report using marijuana; 31% report doctor-recommended use

new study in Addictive Behaviors found that 7% of pregnant US women reported using marijuana and that 31% of current pregnant users reported a medical recommendation of marijuana use in the past year. The study also found that prenatal marijuana use was more likely among women who were younger, unmarried, had a serious psychological disturbance in the past month, and reported the use of cigarettes and alcohol. In other words, Big Weed and its allies in the medical world are preying on vulnerable groups with a drug linked to severe health problems for mother and baby alike, including preeclampsia and serious mental health issues persisting into later childhood. Not exactly “First, do no harm” is it?
