Friday Fact: In New York, marijuana now sends more kids ages 0–4 to the ER than Tylenol, aspirin, and ibuprofen combined

A recent report from the New York State Department of Public Health warned that the number of emergency department visits due to marijuana exceeded the combined number due to Tylenol, aspirin, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs among children between the ages of 0 and 4. What’s more, the report noted that marijuana has become the second most common poisoning type for treat-and-release cases and the most common poisoning type for emergency department visits resulting in inpatient admission among this age group. These outcomes illustrate how the legalization and commercialization of marijuana are harming vulnerable populations, particularly children.
