State-level youth surveys indicate that thousands of kids are buying marijuana directly from dispensaries. In Arizona, when 8th, 10th, and 12th grade marijuana users were asked in 2024 where they got their marijuana, 16.4% answered that they “bought it from a dispensary within Arizona.” In Massachusetts in 2025, 4.8% of lifetime marijuana users in high school said, “I bought it from a store.” Likewise, in Colorado, when past-month marijuana users in high school were asked in 2025 where they obtained their marijuana, 3.9% answered, “I bought it at a marijuana store or center.” Despite assurances from the marijuana industry that dispensaries are not selling to minors, the minors themselves are admitting that it is occurring.
