Kevin Sabet was interviewed by The Hill to share his two cents on marijuana rescheduling. Namely, what people think it’s about, what it’s really about, and how it should be stopped in its tracks given the potentially devastating consequences of it going through. The key point?
“I don’t think it’s consistent with [President Trump’s] agenda at all.”
Kevin expands: “it would give huge tax breaks to the marijuana industry. That’s all that this is about. It’s about money. It’s about a small number of people making a lot of money off of many users.”
Kevin relates the literal outcome of the marijuana industry getting a huge tax break, but there’s also a more nuanced social outcome:
“the issue of the message that [rescheduling] sends. Because we know the headlines will be, ‘listen, marijuana is being reclassified. It’s being downgraded.’”
That’s a misconception we just can’t afford.
