In 2025, nearly one in three Americans aged 12 and older who used marijuana in the past year had a marijuana use disorder, according to new data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Of the estimated 61.6 million past-year marijuana users, 19.3 million—or 31.4%—had a marijuana use disorder.
Among adolescents, the numbers are even more alarming. More than half—50.3%—of past-year marijuana users ages 12 to 17 had a marijuana use disorder, representing roughly 1.1 million young people.
Millions of Americans are developing marijuana use disorders as the for-profit marijuana industry continues producing and marketing increasingly potent THC products.
