One of the country’s leading brain imaging experts says some teenagers aren’t developing ADHD – they’re developing brain problems associated with marijuana use.
On the latest episode of High Stakes, Dr. Daniel Amen, founder of Amen Clinics and one of the world’s foremost experts on brain imaging, explains why he asks parents an important question when they bring in a child with new attention problems:
Did they always have ADHD?
According to Dr. Amen, if the answer is no, marijuana use may be part of the story. Based on decades of experience evaluating brain scans, he says some young people are being labeled with ADHD when their cognitive and attention problems may instead be linked to regular cannabis use.
