High Stakes with Dr. Kevin Sabet
NBA star Julius Randle made a dramatic decision after seeing what marijuana use looked like on his own brain scan: he stopped using it.
That’s according to renowned psychiatrist and brain-imaging expert Dr. Daniel Amen, who discussed treating Randle during his recent appearance on High Stakes with Dr. Kevin Sabet.
Amen said Randle had been using marijuana heavily and that Randle’s wife had noticed significant changes.
“His wife said it just changed his personality. And he went from happy and connected, loving, to angry and distant and dark.”
Amen said Randle was also struggling with negative thoughts and had been using marijuana as a way of coping. But seeing his brain scan proved to be a turning point.
“He saw his scan and immediately stopped.”
Amen said the experience illustrates one of the reasons he believes brain imaging can be so powerful: “If you don’t look, you don’t know.”
