Friday Fact: Nearly 200,000 ER Visits Linked to Scromiting

A new CDC study identified 199,565 emergency room visits involving severe, repeated vomiting linked to frequent marijuana use.

The condition is known as cannabis hyperemesis syndrome, or CHS, and young people were hit especially hard. From October 2025 through May 2026, CHS-related ER visits were highest among 15- to 24-year-olds, followed by adults aged 25 to 34.

The CDC warned that the condition is likely still underdiagnosed and called for better education about the risks of frequent marijuana use, improved screening, and greater awareness among medical professionals.
